This Kindle e-reader is thinner than a pencil and lighter than a paperback, thus making it ideal for hours of comfortable reading.

You can now register online for a temporary library card to take advantage of certain online services right away, service such as:

  • Reserve a book or DVD
  • Download a free ebook from Live-brary.com
  • Access our online databases

Go to http://sclsmap.info/ and enter your address to begin the registration process.

Note: Temporary cards expire after 30 days. You must complete your registration in person in the Library for full borrowing privileges.

 

How do I Get a Museum Pass?

Shelter Island Public Lbrary proudly offers Free Family Museum Passes which have been generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Use your library card to check out free admission passes to these museums:

American Museum of Natural History (NYC)

amnhlogo60x285Patrons may check out up to to four vouchers per visit for free admission at the American Museum of Natural History, limited to two visits per family per year. Vouchers for this museum do not need to be returned.

Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE)

cmeelogoPatrons may check out the library’s pass to CMEE, which is good for four (4) free admissions per visit. Passes are checked out for a one-day loan.


Parrish Art Museum

Patrons may check out one or two of the library’s passes to the Parrish Art Museum, which is good for complimentary admission for one (1) adult.  All children under 18 are entitled to free admission with this pass. Passes may be checked out for a one-day loan.

South Fork Natural History Museum

sofo logoPatrons may check out the library’s pass to the South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO) which is good for complimentary admission for four (4) adults and four (4) children.  Passes may be checked out for a one-day loan.

 

How do I Pay Fines Online?

Library patrons who owe $5.00 or more in overdue fines, lost items, or damaged materials fees that you have been billed for, can now pay online using a Visa or MasterCard credit card.

To pay online…

  • Log into your account by clicking on “MY ACCOUNT” above.
  • Click on your “Fines” located under “My Reading History”.
  • At the top of the next screen, click on the “Pay Your Library Fines Online” button.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to complete the transaction.

 

How do I Renew a Item?

Items that are currently checked out to you can be renewed online as long as:

  • The item is not overdue;
  • The item has not been requested or reserved by another patron;
  • Your library card is in good standing;
  • The item type itself can be renewed.

To renew items online, follow these simple steps:

  1. Log into your account by clicking on “MY ACCOUNT” above.
  2. Once logged in, click on “Item(s) Currently Checked Out” on the next screen.
  3. Click in the checkbox next to each item you want to renew.
  4. Click the “Renew Selected Items” button to renew your choice(s) or click “Renew All” for all items.

 

How do I Reserve an Item?

Reserves can be placed directly through the online catalog. To reserve an item, follow these simple steps:

  1. Find the item you want to request in the Shelter Island Library Catalog.
  2. Click on the blue “Request” button to the right of the item, or on the red “Request Item” at the top of the page.
  3. On the next screen, enter your library barcode and password. Click the  SUBMIT button to place the request.
  4. You will be contacted at the phone number or email address listed in your library account when your item is ready for pickup.
